It is now less than two weeks until our NGS open days. it has been cold so our snowdrops seem to be a little late this year but we think there should be plenty in flower for the snowdrop weekend on 5 – 7 February. Some old friends are appearing and it is lovely to welcome them back. Fieldgate Prelude is now fully out. This is a beautiful and vigorous snowdrop with pretty markings on the inner segment. Apparently it is a seedling from Mrs Macnamara (see my last post). Another favourite is in full flower too – Fly Fishing – with its elegantly held flowers on long pedicels.
We have decided because of the ongoing concerns about Covid to use our large, airy and I am afraid rather cold barn for refreshments instead of our nice warm kitchen. It is sad but we think it is wise to be cautious and though it is delightful to have a group of galanthophiles snuggling round the Aga but we hope people will feel safer and enjoy warm sausage rolls, hot drinks and cake despite the cold.
