I love September, my birthday month, and this year after such a wet summer everything in the garden is looking lush and full of flower. When we were planting the garden in the beginning we used to visit gardens at this time of year after most of the work at home was complete. Consequently we have a great variety of later flowering plants in the garden and I think it is one of the best seasons here. We have asters of course and many dahlias which I may write about another time. Also salvias in profusion. I am especially thrilled this year with the Ginger plants which have taken quite some time to flourish but now look rather special, lifting the predominantly yellow border with a sparkle of tangerine. I adore anemones and especially Prinz Heinrich which looks sensational with the low late sun behind it and another great love is Althea cannabina the tall and airy hollyhock with tiny pink but unmistakably hollyhock flowers.
